RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT
TRAINING PROGRAM
PREREQUISITE
Retail beverage establishment
assistants: The prerequisites include honesty, basic math skills,
criminal background checks, willingness to work with a varied public and
the willingness to learn new and interesting skills. For example,
inventory control, stocking, operating computer cash registers, lottery
machines and other retail-related duties.
ALCOHOL AWARENESS COURSE
DESCRIPTION
The Alcohol Awareness Course is
certified by the State of Maryland and complies with all laws pertinent
to it per House Bills #400 and #386, Article 2B, Section 130A of The
Annotated Code of Maryland. This course focuses on how alcohol affects
the body, behavior and the consequences of drinking and driving.
Further, techniques to cease service prior to an individual becoming
intoxicated will be stressed. The metabolism and physiological aspects
of alcohol consumption will also be addressed. Acceptable forms of ID
and techniques for identifying individuals will be shared. This course
is designed to assist servers in developing skills that will enable them
to serve their customers responsibly.
OVERVIEW OF THE TRAINING
CURRICULUM
 | Retail beverage
establishment assistants. Trainees will learn day-to-day operation
systems of retail beverage establishments. Skills taught may include
computer cash register training, inventory control, stocking cold
boxes, retail security, alcohol awareness training, and how to read
a cash register journal. Upon completion, graduates will be
certified in Alcohol Awareness and will be adequately trained to
enter into entry-level retail beverage establishment assistant
position. |
 | Retail Beverage
Establishment Assistants need rubber sole support shoes. Tennis
shoes are not acceptable. |
 | Retail Beverages
Establishment Assistants will participate in the two-week course and
then be placed in a retail establishment for on-the-job training,
for a minimum of 30 days. |
 | Retail Beverage
Establishment Assistant classes will be based on the number of
retail establishments that are willing to participate in the
on-the-job training portion of the program. |
 | Retail Beverage
Establishment Assistants will be measured by their ability to adapt
to handling new responsibilities and skills learned, as well as
their ability to pass the certification process for the alcohol
awareness portion of the course. |
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
 | All businesses that
participate are pre-qualified and have agreed to accept trainees for
the on-the-job training portion of the program. Afterwards, if the
trainees satisfactorily complete the on-the-job training, they may
be placed permanently. Our certification is accepted by
participating organizations. |
 | If the Retail Beverage
Establishment Assistant does not pass the certification for Alcohol
Awareness, they may be placed in on-the-job training, but may not
receive permanent placement at selected establishments. |
